Horse Race Betting Tips
If you decide to engage in horse betting, make sure to follow the tips on this page to increase your chances of finding a big winner. The first thing I’m going to suggest is to avoid the gimmick bets. These bets include things such as Trifectas and Superfectas. The reason to avoid these is because your odds here are much worse than if you do normal bets like Win, Place, or Show.
A Win bet is the most simple of horse bets - you simply decide what horse you think is going to win, and bet your money on him. If you win you’ll receive the posted payout for the horse - these usually vary between 1:1 and 50:1 depending on how much of a favorite your horse is.
A Place bet is where you place a bet on a horse that you believe is going to finish in the top two spots of the race. If they finish second you’ll receive a big payout, and if they finish first you’ll receive a slightly smaller payout. Basically, if you have a hunch a horse will finish second, but may also finish first, this is the bet to make.
A Show bet is where you place a bet on a horse that you hope will place in the top three spots in the race. If they receive third place you’ll have a nice payday, and if they get first or second you will also be paid out, but not as much.
Ok, so now you know what the bets are that we’ll be placing - how do you find out which horse to bet on? One tip I like to use is to only bet on horses that have ran within the past few weeks. If they haven’t run in a while, they could have been injured or have lost some of their speed in the off time. By betting on a horse that ran recently you’ll have the security of knowing how they performed in their last event.
Another thing to think about is betting on horses that have experienced jockeys riding them. The longer the race is, the more experienced of a jockey you want, because the jockey needs to know how to pace the horse. This is an essential horse race betting tip.
