Garam Masala - Exotic Blend To Enhance Your Culinary Experience

Spices have always been the essence of Indian cuisine with the famous garam masala crowning the list. Literally meaning “hot mixture”, it is a wonderful blend of the most aromatic and flavorful Indian spices, and is used not only in India but in many Asian countries and even worldwide.

Although garam masala components may vary, a traditional mix is based on cinnamon, cloves, cumin, nutmeg and cardamom. In addition to that, it may include dried red chilies, black peppercorns, coriander, ginger powder, bay leaves, mace, fennel, fenugreek seeds, and dried garlic. There is really no best recipe for it, as every particular blend has its own special flavor and may or may not be preferred by each individual cook.

American Hamburgers - How Big Should They Be?

When I reached the Minneapolis-St.Paul airport I had been traveling for hours and was really hungry. I went into a restaurant, scanned the menu, and asked the server, “How big is the hamburger?”

“It’s the standard half-pound size,” he answered, making a large circle with his hands.

Hamburgers are getting bigger and bigger. Janet Raloff writes about portion sizes in her article, “Dietary Inflation,” published on the Science News Web site. Raloff cites a University of North Carolina study of eating habits and portions. In the 1970s a typical hamburger was 5.7 ounces. In the 1990s this size had grown to seven ounces. Now, many restaurants are serving half-pound burgers and a few are serving one-pounders.

Satisfying most edible desires, Cairo, Egypt is home to a never-ending source of eateries. Inexpensive food is always easily accessible everywhere about the streets, as restaurants and snack stalls are all over the place. The highest-rated dining opportunities are most often, but not always situated in hotels and Nile boats. The borders found between eateries and cafes are not clearly defined within the Egyptian capital. In numerous locations, it is rather satisfactory to simply sip on a drink or sheesha. Mid-range and high-range sites may request a minimum charge. The less expensive eateries and some of the pricier outlets typically do not serve alcohol.

Croatian Recipes And Cuisine

Croatian cuisine is sometimes known as “the cuisine of regions”, since each part of Croatia has its own distinct culinary traditions, and influences from its neighbors. The cookery of coastal regions shows influences from Roman, Illyrian and Greek cuisine, Italian cuisine, and even French cuisine, whereas inland areas get their influences from Viennese and Austrian cuisine, Hungarian cuisine and Turkish cuisine.

Some popular Croatian dishes include:

- Juha od Mahuna - A vegetable soup made from green beans, as well as carrots, lentils, onions and peas.

- Brudet - Fish stew, served with polenta (boiled cornmeal)
