Instilling The Value Of Memorial Day In Your Kids Minds With Holiday Crafts
Memorial Day is a special occasion in which we can all take the time out to honor those who have provided their lives in the service of protecting our country. In order to best define the idea of Memorial Day for children, a themed holiday craft may be in order.
On Memorial Day, we commemorate not only those who have died serving the United States and providing security to the country but also those living who have served in the past or are currently enlisted in the military. One way to drive home the value of such service is to perhaps have children craft a piece of art or poetry to send to one of the soldiers currently serving a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, informing the serviceman that he or she is not serving in vain but is appreciated here on home soil where we aren’t suffering terrorist attacks due to their diligence.
Another idea for a Memorial Day theme craft is to have your son or daughter and his or her friends, perhaps even an entire class at school or the local daycare center, put together a banner or sign that says “Happy Memorial Day” to post outside the school, having each child place their handprints on the sign with finger paint of all different colors and sign their names below the handprints, an especially good task for younger children who are not yet able to write out long sentences and paragraphs. Such special crafts will remind the children of the importance of Memorial Day and make the servicemen feel appreciated.
